Review of the Comp PlanEvery 5 years, our Planning Commission reviews our Comprehensive Plan.  This is important because the content in the Comp Plan is considered during revisions of the Zoning Ordinances, thus may become further protections for our County.  During this review process, the County Planning Commission is holding meetings open for public comment in various locations.  The next time to voice your suggestions is in Sperryville on July 18th at 7:30 p.m. at the Sperryville Fire Hall.  Other meetings will take place in September and November in Amissville and Flint Hill.  You are welcome to speak at any of the meetings.

Comprehensive Plan Revision ideas

Presented to County Planning Commission on 5/16/12

1) Ridge Top Development - Phil

2) Biking and hiking trails - Phil

3) Wording that indicates a greater respect for the treatment of historic amenities in the County, such as stone walls - Phil

4) The supervisors passed a resolution requesting VDOT not to white line any more roads in Rappahannock. They have agreed. Please mention in Comp Plan that this is a part of our process to maintain our historic and scenic value. – Phil

5) Maintain and encourage the 13 Shenandoah National Park trailheads that originate in Rappahannock County. A private property owner closed the Big Devil Stairs trailhead access. - Phil

6) Consider eliminating the 3 major billboards located in Rappahannock County. Any billboards in excess of 3’ X 4’ should be considered non-conforming, nor should they be replaced or repaired or have the message changed – Phi

7) Eliminate off-site real estate signs – Ron

8) Special Events in the County. Ron suggested that these not be decided by number of events or number of people but rather on whether they can be policed - Ron

9) More done to protect and enhance tourism. He supported Phil’s idea for protecting trailheads and to ask VDOT to make parking sites available at these locations - Rick

10) Protection of streams and vegetation along streams. What is now in there, is too piecemeal – Bev Hunter
